These designs can require distances as short as 8.2ft to project a 100-inch screen, which is the most common throw distance setup in limited space or small apartments.īesides, some projectors with the short-throw lens can save more space from the projector to the wall, offering a shorter projection distance for the same 100-inches screen are also models with the lens placed inside the projector body to project images upward onto a screen above and behind the projector body, and these ultra-short throw models only require a distance of less than 3.3ft to project a 100-inch screen. Among all existing projectors, a throw ratio around 1.13:1 is the most common design that has the lens in the front of the projector. ![]() There are many choices in terms of machine size and projector lens design. Keep in mind the best setup position is where two walls are furthest apart in the space. If the space has an irregular shape, such as an L shape or a polygon, first confirm furniture placement, then measure the distance between the two walls as the reference for purchasing a projector. To select the ideal projector for your home, you will need to measure the length and width of the room and use the maximum distance the projector can be placed from the screen to filter for the specific projector model that will meet your ideal screen size from that distance. Therefore, the projection distance starts from your room size and where the projector will be placed also its distance to the screen or which wall to project the image. ft, such as a small apartment when it is needed to project a 100-inch picture. In this example, the specification 8.2ft " means that the minimum distance you will need is 8.2ft from the projector to the wall to get a 100-inch screen size, which is an ideal projector set up in a space of about 21 sq. Look for information about screen size and distance, typically expressed as "screen size distance" from the screen. Which can calculate a distance as 8.2ft from the wall for projection of a 100-inch image with a 16:9 aspect ratio (image width is approximately 7.2ft). Throw Ratio = Throw Distance / Image Width, Take throw ratio 1.13:1 as an example, the relationship between projection distance and screen size is defined as Though a large space is needed in order to project onto large screens, today’s short throw and ultra-short throw projectors, or throw ratio around 1.13:1, make it easy to enjoy 100”+ screen sizes in rooms of any size simply, especially in small apartments. However, Stage 2 tosses in shield-bearing foes who must be attacked from multiple directions since they block the angle you struck them last. Stage 1 serves as a fine introduction with basic enemies, making it easy to grasp the mechanics. Clearing 10+ blocks of a nasty enemy feels immensely satisfying.Įven still, I think the difficulty spikes earlier than it should. Now, I can carefully navigate a board while still acting quickly. I took quite a few beatings before finally finding a groove. Managing multiple enemy types that all require their own approach to defeating them isn’t easy. This is especially true against enemies that require more thought to eliminate, such as ghosts that vanish for a period after each hit or frogs that become electrified every other step. Since tiles descend faster when you move (and drop slower when you’re stationary), quelling the knee-jerk desire to plow through as quickly as possible is tough and can result in a hasty death. Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon is challenging. My favorite is a simple bomb that clears large chunks of tiles, though it can damage you as well if you don’t escape its range. Keys also open chests that grant useful power-ups such as a spear that pierces multiple targets, a shield that blocks attacks, or a smokescreen that negates enemy counterattacks within a perimeter. Finding keys to open exit doors advances you to the next stage, so it’s really about surviving until said door appears. You don’t need to wipe a board clear to win. This taught me to always monitor my health and judge the right times to attack. By the time you’re back, the board may have filled up, resulting in failure. Sure, Shovel Knight can die repeatedly, but respawning takes precious seconds, and the game doesn’t wait for you to return. I’m playing the traditional format, but I’d describe it as “less hard” rather than easy, per se. ![]() Playing under roguelike rules means you start from scratch after each death, regardless of the board’s state. Playing traditionally grants unlimited lives, so you only lose when the board fills up. Depending on the mode of play you choose, traditional or roguelike, dying has two results. ![]() Early on, I instinctively bashed into every matching stack of monsters I saw, forgetting I often took the same damage in return. Tile-clearing also rewards gems used to purchase new items and fills up a meter that multiplies your gem intake.Īs a fan of tile-matching games, Pocket Dungeon’s more action-oriented approach took getting used to. Losing health results in failure, so Pocket Dungeon becomes a tricky balance of clearing tiles relatively quickly while thoughtfully attacking foes to avoid getting killed yourself. Furthermore, both you and monsters have health bars, and most foes hit back after being struck. ![]() Though tiles automatically descend slowly to start, they drop faster each time you move. You move Shovel Knight (or other unlockable characters) within these boards to bash away matching titles. Pocket Dungeon’s boards feature descending tiles, which can be monsters, obstacles, health potions, and other items you must prevent from stacking to the top by clearing matching tiles adjacent to another. Assuming you can put up with a surprisingly steep difficulty curve, Pocket Dungeon is worth checking out if you’re looking for a new puzzler to chip away at. After countless matches, I can say its action-oriented spin on tile-matching puzzle games works well. Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon launches tomorrow and offers an intriguing change of pace for everyone’s favorite shovel-wielding hero/obligatory indie cameo star. ![]() ![]() ![]() If you’re looking for a great ad blocker for iPhone and iPad, you can be confident that any of the solutions listed above will work superbly well.Nobody likes intrusive ads on YouTube and ![]() Using an ad blocker can do a lot to improve your online privacy and security. ![]() This isn't unique to Google-many wireless outdoor cameras like Arlo and Reolink have similar limitations. Still, Google says the battery won't charge in freezing temperatures, so you may need to bring it inside to warm up during the winter charging sessions. This is Google's first battery-powered security camera, and we're pleased to say its battery holds up well in tests. Read our full Arlo Pro 4 review to learn more. The price plays a major role in the Reolink Argus 3 Pro claiming the top spot on our list-something Arlo held for many years. This makes it a more affordable choice, though it's still more expensive than the average wireless camera (including some Arlo cameras). While you have to pay for cloud video storage on the Arlo Pro 4, it's one of the more average subscriptions out there at $4.99 a month.Īrlo 4 fixes the biggest drawback of Arlo Pro 3 in that it no longer requires a base station, which was available only when buying two or more cameras. And the magnetic wall mount makes it easy to install anywhere. It's a breeze to set up, thanks to a helpful tutorial in the Arlo app. Its 2K video captures more detail than 1080p outdoor cameras and records clear video any time of day, thanks to infrared night vision and a built-in spotlight. The Arlo Pro 4 is an excellent battery-powered camera, especially if you want a quick setup, multiple cameras, and outstanding video quality. Read our in-depth review of the Reolink Argus 3 Pro to learn more. Overall we found setup easy, and the camera outperformed our expectations, so we're enormous fans of Reolink. Its starlight night vision gives you clear images up to 33 feet without extra ambient light. It even boasts compatibility with smart home platforms like Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. Our test wasn't exactly taxing on the cameras, so you can expect to drain the battery in a month or two under normal conditions.ĭuring our tests, we noticed that this camera lacks motion zones and has a narrower field of view (122º) than average, but it's still one of the best choices for most folks. This contrasts with our experience of batteries draining fairly quickly if you record or view video often without a solar panel accessory. The local storage helps reduce the camera's Wi-Fi usage (which chews through batteries) for better performance overall. It outlasted Arlo Pro 4 in long-term battery tests, which is another notch in Reolink's belt. Still, it lacks a removable battery like Arlo Pro 4 and Ring Stick Up Cam-you can't quickly swap in a spare. This camera uses a rechargeable battery or solar power, so you have a lot of flexibility for camera placement. Its 2K video resolution, larger battery, and support for 5 GHz Wi-Fi give the Arlo Pro 4 a run for its money. ![]() We highly recommend the Reolink Argus 3 Pro over the normal Reolink Argus 3. ![]() ![]() They say the role is open to pop-culture newbies and veterans alike. Concord is capable of slashing with various weapons, guarding with a shield, running, and dodging. There is a sense of danger to the world and the threat the Rot holds and one of urgency to completing tasks for the Grove and its denizens.Īs a top-down action game, Garden Story has little room to control in complex ways. While it maintains a childlike wonder, there are enough sharpened edges that Garden Story doesn’t feel suffocating in its cuteness. Never once did I tire of traipsing into a familiar screen or speaking to a new character with an appropriate name. The sense of adventure players eke out from Concord waking up on their first day to dangerous boss encounters is reminiscent of the Zelda games Garden Story so clearly is inspired by and pays respect to. From the many puns based on fruit and other vegetation to a jolly tackling of seasons and gaming location tropes, Garden Story‘s world is fully realized. Keenly aware of how precious its greenery is, developer Picogram imbued the Grove with personality. ![]() Though most of the playable space is covered in terrain and buildings that Concord may never walk over or enter, it evokes the provocative beauty of nature or the intimate simplicity of a home garden. The world possesses a sharpness and level of detail that I didn’t expect, even on the Nintendo Switch. Not only do the vibrant colors pop right off the screen, the art itself is crisp and detailed. Unless you are completely against otherwise adorable pixel art, it’s impossible not to love the game’s aesthetic. Garden Story is an infectiously cute game. The Rot is the dimmest spot in the bright world of the Grove, acting as the primary antagonistic force that would disrupt an otherwise a harmonious place. The Grove and its four regions were being attacked by the Rot, an unpleasant force full of blob-like enemies that excreted poisonous mist or seemed to possess large beasts. As a young grape named Concord (cute), I had taken on the role of a Guardian after the previous Guardian Plum departed the Grove. Up until that point, Garden Story had been mostly straightforward. Not only was I in full-blown RPG territory, I was staring down the barrel of a pixelated crafting game. ![]() Garden Story had introduced several wrinkles in its Link to the Past-like homage that it had become more than just a top-down action game. Locations are overly greebled with landmarks and winding paths, making it difficult to get around with ease or speed-and the map is obtuse, instead of helpful, at a glance. There came a point in Garden Story after I had learned how to fish items out of the water, collect world lore, break rocks with a hammer, revitalize plants with dew, and survive a day/night cycle that the game taught me how to craft. Menus are confusing and difficult to use. But every other aspect of the game feels one step away from being memorable. The art is rich and beautiful, and the interfaces look great. This game wants to be very charming, and it sometimes comes very close. ![]() I found myself wondering about hard resetting quickly after dying, because the game only saves during your overnight rests. That feels frustrating when the only way to level up your stats and unlock content is by completing the daily gathering and combat goals-but failure to complete them usually means just being shut out of them rather than being imposed a reset penalty. If Concord dies during combat, the day immediately ends with a small financial penalty. Plus, each chapter concludes with a boss fight, featuring bosses that take around 20 hits to kill. Fighting uses progressively stronger weapons and household implements too. Your HP begins with a Zelda-like three “hearts” to start, with upgrades that increase your maximum health throughout the game. Garden Story definitely struggles to make the repetitive gathering and combat tasks more interesting.Ĭombat is one of the places where the game is the least fleshed out, as is the crossover between combat and the game’s other, more pastoral, goals.
